How Do You Know if Your Web Site is Worthless?

Many individuals and small businesses have web sites. Many of those web sites are worthless or nearly worthless. Sorry to be blunt, but it's true. Look at the questions below. If you can't answer these questions, you need a better web site. If the questions cause you to be concerned about how your site is hosted or designed, then you need to make changes.

You deserve to have a web site that generates traffic and income as well as provide you with credibility and prestige. Do not waste any more time or money on something that doesn't work.

These questions are designed to make you think about what your web site (or web hosting company) is - or should be - doing for you.

If you already have a web site, ask yourself the following questions:

  • How many unique visitors does your site attract each month?
  • How many pages do these visitors to your site view?
  • Do you have the ability to track (or get a report of) how many visitors view your site each day?
  • Which of your web pages is visited most frequently? Why?
  • Where does your site rank at each of the major search engines?
  • Is the rank this month better than last month?
  • Do you know where each of your web pages rank at each of the major search engines?
  • How much overall traffic does your site receive each month?
  • Do you know where web surfers are coming from? Google, Yahoo or MSN.com organic searches? PPC? Social bookmarking sites?
  • How many of your visitors find your site through organic searches?
  • Do you know which pages your visitors land on when they visit your site?
  • Do you know how many pages they view?
  • Can you add pages to your web site yourself or do you have to pay someone else to do this?
  • How much does your web site cost to operate per month? Per year?
  • If you pay someone else, how much do you pay?
  • Are you alerted if you have any broken links on your site?
  • Do you know which keywords visitors use to find your site?
  • What is the page rank of your site and do you know how to improve it?
  • Does your site allow you to take advantage of RSS?
  • Does your site allow you to blog without having to host your blog off-site?
  • Does your site establish you as an authority in your field (articles, business or individual credentials/history, awards/honors/degrees)?
  • Are you able to submit your pages to the search engines for spidering or indexing?
  • Do you have a .txt sitemap on record with Yahoo so that your site gets spidered regularly?
  • How about a .xml file with Google?
  • Does your site generate passive income for you?
  • How many "views" does each page of your site receive each month?
  • Do you know how to increase those page views without spending additional money?
  • How do you know if your web pages are optimized for the search engines?

If you were less than pleased with your current website or your current hosting company or web designer, then you need to make some changes. If your business matters, then your web site matters. If you want to make people stand up and take notice of you or your business, then you owe it to yourself to have a web site that offers you the best of everything.
